Self Directed Support with Improving Lives
Are you or someone you love struggling to get the support you need to live an independent life?
Perhaps you find it difficult to get washed and dressed or canʼt get out of the house by yourself.
If so, maybe our Self Directed Support (SDS) team at Improving Lives can help you get the support you need.
For just under two and a half years Improving Livesʼ dedicated SDS team has been providing expert support and advice to people in West Dunbartonshire who are disabled or have a long-term illness.
We help them access funds and support organisations which allows them to live as independently as possible.
Self Directed Support is a way of providing assistance or care that allows individuals to have more control and choice over the support they receive.
It helps people to make decisions about their own care, so it fits their specific needs.
This might include help with daily tasks like personal care, managing your home, or even support for social activities also respite for carers.
The key is - you have more say in deciding what kind of support best fits your life.

Our SDS team guides people through the whole Self Directed Support process, from explaining the options available, helping each person choose which support package best suits them and, if required, provide support for those awarded SDS to find a suitable Personal Assistant.
Over the past 28 months we have successfully guided hundreds of local people through the SDS process, many of whom also joined the various support groups at Improving Lives. We have also guided people to groups and organisations who provide more specialised support for their particular needs and requirements.
Below is a selection of feedback comments from some satisfied clients:
ʻI found your explanation of the SDS process clear and helpful. I appreciated the time taken to outline the options and the support your service can offerʼ
ʻThanks for your support this morning, even someone just listening to me makes a huge difference. You discussed lots of options regarding my dad and his care and groups he could attend which is greatʼ
ʻI was very impressed with the help that I got from the SDS team. I was struggling to get my head round the idea of SDS, trying to speak to my local council has not been easy. I left the office on a high as I now have the life assessment which is the first time I had seen the document. I can complete this document with my father and get him the support he deservesʼ

What childhood books and stories live on in your imagination - or in your life? Did ʻPaddingtonʼ inspire a travel adventure to deepest, darkest Peru? Or the ʻHorrible Historiesʼ lead you in search of Groovy Greeks? Perhaps Robert Macfarlaneʼs ʻLost Wordsʼ instilled a love of the natural world, or ʻFrank &
